Description
Mom’s Old Fashioned Rice Pudding is a simple and delicious dessert made with five ingredients.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup uncooked white rice
- 4 cups whole milk
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the Rice: In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Add the uncooked rice, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15-20 minutes or until the rice is tender and water is absorbed.
- Combine Ingredients: In another saucepan, combine the cooked rice, whole milk, and sugar. Stir well to mix the ingredients.
- Heat the Mixture: Place the saucepan over medium heat. Cook the mixture, stirring frequently, until it begins to thicken (about 15-20 minutes).
- Add Flavor: Once thickened, remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in the vanilla extract and ground cinnamon, if using.
- Cool the Pudding: Allow the pudding to cool slightly in the saucepan before transferring it to serving bowls or a large dish.
- Chill (Optional): If desired, cover the pudding and refrigerate for about one hour until it is chilled.
- Serve: Enjoy the pudding warm or cold, garnished with a sprinkle of cinnamon or a dollop of whipped cream.
