Description
French Toast Bread Pudding is a delightful dessert that combines the flavors of French toast with a rich custard soaked in bread.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf of day-old bread (preferably brioche or challah)
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup raisins or chocolate chips (optional)
- Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
- Maple syrup, for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Cut the day-old bread into 1-inch cubes and place them in a large bowl.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, gently stirring to ensure all pieces are coated. If using, fold in raisins or chocolate chips.
- Allow the mixture to sit for about 10-15 minutes, letting the bread absorb the custard.
- Pour the soaked bread mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
- For extra flair, dust the top with powdered sugar just before serving.
Notes
- Feel free to customize with your favorite mix-ins like nuts or dried fruit.
- Serve warm with maple syrup for added sweetness.
