- 3 lb – 4 lb pork shoulder butt
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tsp kosher salt
- 1 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp ground mustard
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 3/4 cup chicken broth
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp liquid smoke
Instructions
- Cut the meat into 4-6 equal-sized pieces and trim fat as desired.
- Mix salt, pepper, brown sugar, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, ground mustard, and cayenne pepper in a bowl. Rub this mixture all over the meat.
- Combine chicken broth, cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and liquid smoke in the slow cooker. Whisk it together.
- Place the seasoned meat into the slow cooker.
- Slow cook on low for 480-600 minutes or on high for 240-360 minutes.
- Remove the meat to a bowl and shred it with two forks. Serve with the juices from the slow cooker or your favorite BBQ sauce.
Notes
For added flavor, let the pork marinate with the spice rub overnight in the refrigerator. Consider adding sliced onions or garlic cloves to the slow cooker for more depth of flavor.
