Description

An easy and delicious sweet pastry recipe featuring flaky puff pastry filled with a homemade strawberry compote and a creamy cream cheese frosting.


Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (store bought)
  • 1 cup strawberries, sliced
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 8 oz. cream cheese
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/41/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • Additional fresh strawberries, sliced
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Prepare the strawberry filling by combining 1 cup sliced strawberries, 1/4 cup sugar, and 1/4 cup lemon juice in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat for 5-7 minutes until jam-like. Let cool completely.
  2. Cream 8 oz. softened cream cheese with 1/3 cup sugar until smooth and fluffy using an electric mixer.
  3. Add 2 teaspoons vanilla extract and 1/4-1/2 teaspoon almond extract to the cream cheese mixture and beat until combined. Whip 1/2 cup heavy cream to stiff peaks and gently fold into the cream cheese mixture.
  4. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Unfold puff pastry and cut into desired shapes. Spoon cooled strawberry filling and cream cheese frosting onto one half of each pastry piece.
  5. Fold the other half of the pastry over the filling to create pockets. Press edges to seal and crimp with a fork. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Cool completely on a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar and garnish with fresh strawberries before serving.
