Description

A quick and delicious recipe for Brussels sprouts cooked with bacon and maple syrup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
  • 4 strips of bacon, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: Crushed red pepper flakes for heat

Instructions

  1. Trim the ends of the Brussels sprouts and cut them in half.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until it’s crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Once the bacon is crispy, use a slotted spoon to remove it from the skillet and set it aside. Leave the rendered bacon fat in the skillet.
  4. In the same skillet with the bacon fat, add the halved Brussels sprouts cut side down. Cook for about 5 minutes without stirring to allow them to caramelize.
  5. After 5 minutes, add the olive oil, stirring to coat the Brussels sprouts evenly.
  6. Sprinkle garlic powder, salt, and pepper over the sprouts. If you like a bit of heat, add crushed red pepper flakes.
  7. Continue to cook the Brussels sprouts for an additional 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are tender and golden brown.
  8. Once the Brussels sprouts are cooked, add the crispy bacon back into the skillet along with the maple syrup. Stir well to combine, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until heated through.
  9. Remove from heat and transfer to a serving dish.
