Description
A quick and delicious recipe for Brussels sprouts cooked with bacon and maple syrup.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
- 4 strips of bacon, chopped
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: Crushed red pepper flakes for heat
Instructions
- Trim the ends of the Brussels sprouts and cut them in half.
- In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until it’s crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
- Once the bacon is crispy, use a slotted spoon to remove it from the skillet and set it aside. Leave the rendered bacon fat in the skillet.
- In the same skillet with the bacon fat, add the halved Brussels sprouts cut side down. Cook for about 5 minutes without stirring to allow them to caramelize.
- After 5 minutes, add the olive oil, stirring to coat the Brussels sprouts evenly.
- Sprinkle garlic powder, salt, and pepper over the sprouts. If you like a bit of heat, add crushed red pepper flakes.
- Continue to cook the Brussels sprouts for an additional 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are tender and golden brown.
- Once the Brussels sprouts are cooked, add the crispy bacon back into the skillet along with the maple syrup. Stir well to combine, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until heated through.
- Remove from heat and transfer to a serving dish.
