Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp butter (melted)
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp butter (melted)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup strawberries and/or raspberries
  • 1 cup whipped cream
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Whisk flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt for the red velvet batter in a bowl.
  2. Whisk buttermilk, egg, melted butter, red food coloring, and vanilla, then stir into red dry mix just until combined.
  3. In a second bowl, whisk vanilla dry ingredients, then whisk milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla; combine just until smooth.
  4. Beat cream cheese until smooth, mix in powdered sugar, then thin with milk and vanilla to a pourable drizzle.
  5. Heat waffle maker and lightly spray with cooking spray if needed.
  6. Add vanilla batter to the iron, dollop red velvet batter on top, then gently swirl with a toothpick for a marbled look.
  7. Close lid and cook 3–4 minutes (or until set and crisp). Repeat with remaining batter.
  8. Top with cream cheese drizzle, berries, and whipped cream. Add maple syrup if desired.
