Description
Classic New Orleans Bread Pudding: An Amazing Ultimate Recipe
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf of stale French bread (about 12 cups, cubed)
- 4 cups whole milk
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup raisins (optional)
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a large baking dish or casserole dish.
- Cut the stale French bread into cubes and place them in a large mixing bowl.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the whole milk and granulated sugar until the sugar is dissolved.
- In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add the vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Mix well.
- Pour the milk mixture into the egg mixture and stir until combined.
- Pour the liquid mixture over the cubed bread, gently folding to ensure all pieces are soaked. Let it sit for about 15 minutes for the bread to absorb the liquid.
- If using, fold in the raisins after the bread has soaked.
- Spoon the mixture into the greased baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
- Pour the melted butter over the top of the mixture.
- Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove the bread pudding from the oven and let it cool for 15-20 minutes before serving.
