Description

Classic New Orleans Bread Pudding: An Amazing Ultimate Recipe

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of stale French bread (about 12 cups, cubed)
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup raisins (optional)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a large baking dish or casserole dish.
  2. Cut the stale French bread into cubes and place them in a large mixing bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the whole milk and granulated sugar until the sugar is dissolved.
  4. In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add the vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Mix well.
  5. Pour the milk mixture into the egg mixture and stir until combined.
  6. Pour the liquid mixture over the cubed bread, gently folding to ensure all pieces are soaked. Let it sit for about 15 minutes for the bread to absorb the liquid.
  7. If using, fold in the raisins after the bread has soaked.
  8. Spoon the mixture into the greased baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  9. Pour the melted butter over the top of the mixture.
  10. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  11. Remove the bread pudding from the oven and let it cool for 15-20 minutes before serving.
