Description
Classic Grandma’s Homemade Bread Pudding Served with Creamy Vanilla Sauce Delight
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups day-old bread, cubed (white or brioche)
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup raisins (optional)
- ½ cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
- In a large bowl, combine the cubed bread. If using, stir in the raisins and chopped nuts.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well blended.
- Pour the wet mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring all pieces are soaked. Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to absorb the liquid.
- Pour the soaked bread mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Place in the preheated oven and bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for 15-20 minutes before serving.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the heavy cream, granulated sugar, cornstarch, vanilla extract, and salt.
- Cook while stirring continuously until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.
- Remove from heat and keep warm until ready to serve.
