Description

This Eggnog French Toast Bake is a festive breakfast perfect for the holiday season. Cubed French bread is soaked in a rich custard of eggs, vanilla, and eggnog, then baked over a brown sugar and maple syrup base. Enjoy a delicious, effortless Christmas morning tradition.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 loaf French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • Cinnamon, to taste
  • Nutmeg, to taste
  • 8 eggs
  • 2 cups prepared eggnog
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9- by 13-inch baking dish or two 8- by 8-inch baking dishes with butter or nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar and maple syrup until boiling. Remove from heat and pour into the prepared baking dish.
  3. Spread the cubed French bread over the brown sugar mixture. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg to taste.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs. Add eggnog and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  5. Pour the custard evenly over the bread cubes. Press down gently to ensure all pieces are soaked.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and refrigerate for at least 8 hours or overnight.
  7. Remove from the fridge. Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C). Bake covered for 40 minutes.
  8. Increase oven temperature to 375°F (190°C) and remove the foil. Bake uncovered for an additional 5 to 10 minutes, until puffed and golden brown.
