Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder (for dark chocolate layer)
  • ¼ cup melted dark chocolate

  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup cocoa powder (for frosting)
  • 23 tbsp heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Pinch of salt (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and line three cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well. Stir in vanilla extract.

  8. Stir melted white chocolate into the third bowl.
  9. Pour each batter into prepared pans. Bake for 20–25 minutes. Cool completely in pans.
  10. Beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, followed by heavy cream, vanilla, and salt. Whip until fluffy.
  11. Place dark chocolate layer on a serving plate. Spread chocolate buttercream over it.
  12. Layer with milk chocolate cake and add another layer of buttercream.
  13. Top with white chocolate layer and frost the entire cake with remaining buttercream.
