A rich and decadent dessert combining layers of dark, milk, and white chocolate with creamy frosting.

- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder (for dark chocolate layer)
- ¼ cup melted dark chocolate
- ¼ cup melted milk chocolate
- ¼ cup melted white chocolate
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- ½ cup cocoa powder (for frosting)
- 2–3 tbsp heavy cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
- Pinch of salt (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and line three cake pans with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk. Mix until smooth.
- Divide the batter into three bowls.
- Add cocoa powder and melted dark chocolate to the first bowl and mix well.
- Mix melted milk chocolate into the second bowl.
- Stir melted white chocolate into the third bowl.
- Pour each batter into prepared pans. Bake for 20–25 minutes. Cool completely in pans.
- Beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, followed by heavy cream, vanilla, and salt. Whip until fluffy.
- Place dark chocolate layer on a serving plate. Spread chocolate buttercream over it.
- Layer with milk chocolate cake and add another layer of buttercream.
- Top with white chocolate layer and frost the entire cake with remaining buttercream.
- Refrigerate for 30 minutes to firm up the frosting. Bring to room temperature before serving.
