Description
Cajun Mac Cheese Andouille Sausage is a flavorful and creamy pasta dish with a spicy kick from Andouille sausage.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 ounces elbow macaroni
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound Andouille sausage, sliced
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
- 3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Chopped parsley, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced Andouille sausage and cook until browned, about 5 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Add minced garlic and Cajun seasoning, cooking for an additional minute until fragrant.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine shredded cheddar cheese, milk, and heavy cream. Stir until well combined.
- Add the cooked macaroni, sausage, and sautéed vegetables to the cheese mixture. Mix until everything is coated with the sauce.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish.
- Evenly sprinkle breadcrumbs on top of the mac and cheese for a crunchy topping.
- Place in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown on top.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- Feel free to adjust the amount of Cajun seasoning to your taste.
- For a spicier dish, add diced jalapeños or hot sauce.
