Description

Cajun Mac Cheese Andouille Sausage is a flavorful and creamy pasta dish with a spicy kick from Andouille sausage.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound Andouille sausage, sliced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • 3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Chopped parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced Andouille sausage and cook until browned, about 5 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Add minced garlic and Cajun seasoning, cooking for an additional minute until fragrant.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine shredded cheddar cheese, milk, and heavy cream. Stir until well combined.
  5. Add the cooked macaroni, sausage, and sautéed vegetables to the cheese mixture. Mix until everything is coated with the sauce.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish.
  7. Evenly sprinkle breadcrumbs on top of the mac and cheese for a crunchy topping.
  8. Place in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown on top.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Feel free to adjust the amount of Cajun seasoning to your taste.
  • For a spicier dish, add diced jalapeños or hot sauce.
