Description
Bread Pudding with Bourbon Sauce is a rich and comforting dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups day-old bread, cubed
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup raisins or dried cranberries (optional)
- ½ cup bourbon
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Place the cubed bread in a large bowl and set aside to dry slightly.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
- Pour the wet mixture over the cubed bread. Gently fold in the bread, ensuring all pieces are soaked. Let it sit for about 15 minutes to absorb the liquid.
- If desired, fold in the raisins or dried cranberries.
- Pour the bread mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
- Once baked, remove the pudding from the oven and let it cool for 15-20 minutes before serving.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the brown sugar, heavy cream, bourbon, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Stir until smooth and heated through.
- Drizzle the warm bourbon sauce over individual servings of bread pudding.
Notes
- This dessert is best served warm.
- You can substitute the bourbon with vanilla extract for a non-alcoholic version.
