Baked Vidalia Onions: An Amazing Ultimate Recipe
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large Vidalia onions
- ½ cup olive oil
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably whole wheat)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Peel the Vidalia onions and cut off the top. Hollow out the center using a spoon, leaving about half an inch of the onion intact.
- In a bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, garlic powder, thyme, salt, pepper, and half of the Parmesan cheese.
- Drizzle the olive oil into the breadcrumb mixture and stir until well combined.
- Fill each hollowed-out onion with the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to pack it in.
- Sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese on top of the stuffed onions.
- Arrange the stuffed onions in a baking dish and drizzle a little more olive oil over them.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil to trap steam and ensure even cooking.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until the tops are golden and crispy.
- Allow the onions to cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
